Some of you may wonder what happened to the website for the past few months.
Yes, it went through another “life-n-death” situation. Haha, here is the story.
The web hosting for the website used to be from siteground.com until the company auto-renew its subscription. The credit card company alerted me on this transaction but still allowed the payment to be made. In fury, I questioned siteground.com why is it so. Then, they told me I have agreed to renew automatically, a default value in my account settings. I got even more agitated hearing this nonsense. It got me so mad that I looked for a new hosting company but I did it in such a rush that I overlooked some of the “they know, you don’t know” stuff. I happily moved all my posts and database to new the hosting company except for the domain name registration which was stuck with siteground.com. I didn’t realize until my hosting plan with siteground.com ended which means I have no account to log in to authorize the domain transfer.
Doing it in the hard way, I kept the domain registration with siteground.com since last year and used hosting from another company. I knew something will happen some day. And it did. Registration ended in July/August timeframe. I refused to use siteground.com service and hence, I let it die. When the domain name is freed, I was notified by another company enom.com that I could bid for this domain if it remains owner-less. I did just that and made a bid of USD 69. Based on some rules and regulation, I was made to wait for a month or so. Eventually, I won the bid and here I am. At this juncture, I am trying to transfer the domain registration to the existing hosting company. I am not sure how much will it cost or how long will it take.
The thing is if I continued with the domain registration with siteground.com earlier on, it probably just cost me USD 10+ to continue. Anyway, I was trying to get out of siteground’s control and I think I did learn something from this experience. So, if you are in the same situation, don’t panic. It will still work out, just that you have to pay 4-5 times the price.
To commemorate this event, I have introduced a new “look-n-feel” for the website. It is to signify another new beginning as well. The work is based on default theme offered by the wordpress team; it has improved so much that there is no need for another design…
